Hace más de cinco mil años, en la edad de piedra, había una nena que se llamaba Makiú, que en su lengua significaba “golondrina libre”, y un nene que se llamaba Kijok, que quería decir “jaguar”.

 

Ellos vivían en una caverna con su familia.

Los papás, salían a pescar y a cazar algo para comer.

Las mamás, se quedaban cuidando a los hijos y además preparando el fuego que servía para calentarse los días fríos y para preparar la comida.

A los chicos les tocaba juntar las ramas que se caían de los árboles para hacer la fogata. También recogían frutas maduras y flores para adornar la cueva, regalarle a la mamá o también a alguna nena bonita para que se pusiera contenta.

A Makiú y Kijok les gustaba treparse a los árboles, jugar con los monos a hacerles pito catalán y bañarse en el río. Correr descalzos por el pasto cuesta abajo hasta cansarse, y tirarse panza arriba para contar las estrellas cuando al atardecer comenzaban a salir.

Pero cuando llovía muchos días seguidos, se ponía muy oscuro y se embarraba todo. Entonces ya no podían jugar.

Como sabían que Dios era el que había creado el cielo y la tierra, tuvieron una idea buenísima: se les ocurrió pedirle un “regalo mágico”. Algo que hiciera que en esos días grises, la caverna se llenara de color y todos juntos se alegraran a pesar del mal tiempo.

A Dios le gustó mucho que le hicieran el pedido, porque Makiú y Kijok, sin darse cuenta, habían aprendido a rezar.

Y después de pensar un buen rato, al Buen Dios se le ocurrió algo fantástico y les regaló el don de crear cuentos. Esa misma tarde los chicos se despertaron de la siesta, contentos y entusiasmados, sentían que algo muy bueno les estaba pasando.

Y cuando todos estaban sentados en ronda, Makiú y Kijok empezaron: -“Había una vez…”

Un montón de miradas curiosas se centraron en el medio de la ronda. Parecía que los chicos estaban llenos de luz y su voz sonaba como una melodía de golondrinas, pero tenía la fuerza del rugido de un jaguar.

Cuando terminaron, la puerta de la caverna se iluminó, y cuando se asomaron todos vieron al arco iris. Contentos saltaron y aplaudieron.

A Makiú y Kijok los llenaron de besos, y a partir de ese día ya no hubo más días grises, todos fueron días de sol, gracias a la magia de un cuento.
